Pumping systems are used more today in new developments across Adelaide. The reasons for this vary and can be to do with slope of the block or depth below ground that fixtures are installed. Other common reasons for a pump to be installed can be the sub division of land and addition of extra fixtures to a property.
Regardless of the reasons there can be certain criteria placed upon the approval by SA water and in this article, we are going to list a few of the common ones and how they can be met to achieve a compliant pump installation in Adelaide.
SA Water Compliance
Criteria placed upon a new pump discharge to SA water infrastructure
- The most common requirement placed upon a new discharge pipe is the rate of litres moved per minute. There will be various items to consider for this and mainly it will be the size of the main in the street. It will be stipulated on the approval form X number of litres per minute can be moved from the pumping chamber.
How this is achieved is to ensure the pumps are not too big for the application and secondly if the pumps can move to much liquid the pumps will need to be restricted. It is for these reasons that only a licensed plumber should be performing these installations. Mayfair Plumbing are licensed plumbers and experts in all types of pump works.
- Another key point which follows on from above is a having a 6-digit flow meter installed. The approval will state that annually the digits from the flow meter need to be submitted to SA water. From the litres of liquid moved a bill be issued to the property owner for payment of their Trade Waste approval. This will back up point 1 and prove that the system you have installed does comply and work as per your approval letter.
- To test the quality of liquid being moved (typically in a ground water installation) there will be a requirement for a sampling tap to be installed prior to the water entering the sewer mains. This needs to be installed in a location where a bucket can be inserted under the tap and a reasonable amount of liquid be taken away for sampling.
- Sizing of the pumped waste line will typically be smaller than the SA water street mains as the minimum sized sewer line allowed is 100mm and majority of pumped waste system use a maximum of 50mm (there is exceptions to this rule of course in commercial installations where the pumped lines can go up to 80mm and 100mm).
