A little bit of History on Kensington and its surrounds

It was approximately 20 years ago when the Kensington Hotel had a huge renovation done.  The builder was Chapel Builders, and the Plumbing Company was R A Jordan (that’s who I did my apprenticeship with).  It was during this process they did away with weekday front bar activities at lunch times that didn’t really suit this eastern suburb location of Adelaide.

Kensington today has 1,808 people living in it according to the 2021 sensis.  It is part of the City of Norwood, Payneham, and St Peters council.  The state electorate is Dunstan and the post code for this suburb is 5068.

The village of Kensington was first surveyed in the month of November 1838 by J.H.Hughes and was named after Kensington Palace.  The Kensington line was the first of several tram lines in Adelaide and was initially horse drawn and then was eventually electrified.

Surrounded by suburbs located in the Burnside Council such as Toorak Gardens, Leabrook, Marryatville, and Erindale this suburb of Kensington Gardens is very popular for its amazing tree lined streets and huge heritage style homes.

The Norwood Parade

The Parade as it is known to by many locals in the area is undergoing some huge renovations.  Recently completed by Synergy Construct is the brand-new Coles super market located in the heart of Norwood at 166 The Parade.  Directly above this new shopping area is a 9-storey apartment block which is due for completion by the end of 2023.  There is also a mixed-use area adjacent Coles which will be home to a Butcher, Sushi bar, Café, and other retail outlets.

 Further down the road closer to Osmond Terrace you will notice another apartment complex just about to kick off called ORTA on the Parade.  The demolition has recently been completed and the ground works for the new complex is in its very early stages.  This complex will comprise of luxury boutique style apartments with 2 Bedrooms, 3 Bedrooms and 3 Bedroom sub pent houses.
