Where is Stonyfell?

Stonyfell located within the boundaries of Hallett Road, Stonyfell Road, Penfold Road, Clark Street and Second Creek.  Is located within the city of Burnside Council and is under the post code of 5066 which is the same as Burnside.  Other surrounding suburbs include Wattle Park, Greenhill, Summer Town, Rosslyn Park, Hazelwood Park, and Erindale. Higher up into the foot hills of Adelaide is where Stonyfell is located, and it is with this many of the streets and roads are filled with lots of nature.  You quite often see Koalas and Echidnas roaming the streets, which is amazing given that Stonyfell is only a short drive to the city of Adelaide. The easiest route into the city from Stonyfell is turning onto Hallett Road, then directly down Kensington Road, across Dequetteville Terrace round about and up Wakefield Street.  Hallett Road is often busy with school drop offs and pick-ups at St Peters Girls and Kensington Road also Marryatville School and Loretto.

Case study Viega inwall toilet cistern

We were recently called to an architecturally designed home in Stonyfell to assist with a running toilet.  Sure, enough when we arrived the customer directed us to the bathroom and there it was an inwall toilet cistern.  These set ups are notoriously hard to deal with and there isn’t very many Viega toilet cisterns in Adelaide that I have personally seen. The first step is to get the front panel off without breaking anything.  Fortunately, once inside the cistern it was very similar to that of the Grohe style in wall cisterns which was going to make my life easier as I have worked on plenty of Grohe in wall toilet cisterns across Adelaide’s eastern suburbs over the years as these become more common in newly renovated houses.

There are 2 common faults with these types of cisterns:

• Inlet water seal failing: These cisterns all use a side entry water inlet valve.  Over time this rubber seal develops a small tear and causes the cistern to keep filling up which in turn causes the excess water to go into the over flow tube and into the toilet bowl.
• Outlet rubber seal failing: Each time the toilet is flushed the outlet rubber lifts off the seat and allows water to go into the toilet bowl.  After many flushes this rubber seal can develop imperfections and stop sealing off adequately enough.  The flush mechanism then needs to be removed and the outlet rubber seal replaced.  This is the harder of the two jobs to perform!

Case study replacement of a Rinnai V1200 hot water service

Like many of the homes in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs they are using instant hot water services to provide the heated water to their homes.  Around 12 to 15 years ago Rinnai introduced a range of continuous flow systems called the V range in this range was the V1200 and the V1500.  Today these are super ceded by infinity range of continuous flow hot water services. A regular customer of ours in Stonyfell recently called to report that they had no hot water.  Even after turning the power on and off to the hot water unit the system was still non responsive. Upon arrival and initial inspection, we found that the V1200 unit was 12 years old.  After taking the front case off it was obvious something bad had happened to this unit.  There were black flash marks inside the hot water service all around the electrical cables.  Then after some discussions we realised that the night before there was a huge lightning storm and what had most likely happened was an electrical spike has gone through this hot water service! Depending on your home insurance policy events such as electrical spike can be covered by insurance policies.  Fortunately for these good customers of ours their hot water service was covered.  We sourced a new Rinnai B20 natural gas unit from Tradelink at Norwood and installed it for our client.  Same day hot water change overs are a particular area which we pride ourselves on at Mayfair Plumbing and Gasfitting (conditions do apply).
