Pump Maintenance & Servicing - Avoid Costly Repair Bills

2 May 2021

Pumps are like a lot of things in the plumbing industry, no one thinks about them or sees them until something goes wrong. Plumbing fixtures such as water pumps play a crucial role in the transfer of liquids from one location to the other.  A pump is typically used because traditional methods of transferring liquid such as gravity cannot be used for various reasons.  Under ground car parks, buildings set up below street level, multi storey buildings and fire fighting infrastructure are all examples of where a pump or multiple pumps would be used.

Regular Pump Inspections

It is for these reasons above that we highly recommend quarterly inspections, testing and servicing of pumps on a property. Depending on the type of pump arrangement you have they can be equipped with high level float alarms so when a fault is occurring the light on top of the control box will flash and also an audible noise will be emitted from the control box alert anybody who is near by that there is a fault and qualified pump technician should be contacted promptly.  Over the years we have recommended to many clients that additional alarms should be added in locations more frequented so that if a fault is occurring the chances of someone seeing this is greater.

Commercial Pumps

Pumps which are used in a commercial application tend to be heavy duty and are designed to work hard. They will be connected to high voltage electricity and operate quick.

Some of these pumps will have macerators inside of them to assist in making the matter which needs to be transferred into a liquid and pumped into a sewer system. At Mayfair Plumbing and Gasfitting we have quarterly maintenance programs set up with many commercial business across Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills.

We attend to the sites and have the pumps safely shut down. The pumps are removed from there location and inspected for blockages and obstructions.

Once clean the pumps will be reinstalled and all floats tested to ensure all systems installed are operating as intended by the manufacturer. We have also been out to many emergency situations where a pump has failed, and for example a basement is flooding due to poor pump maintenance.

We always try to insist on preventative work rather than reactive work. If you require the assistance from a professional pump repairer and installer anywhere across South Australia contact the team from Mayfair Plumbing, we understand the importance of transferring liquid.
