Previously known as the suburb called Knightsbridge it is today known as Leabrook. Home to the Knightsbridge Girl Guides and formally home to Coopers Brewery, the largest Australian owned brewery.

Only 5 kilometres from the CBD of Adelaide and home to 1,605 people. Mayfair Plumbing are often busy in and around this eastern suburb’s location of South Australia. Bordered by Tusmore Avenue, Knightsbridge Road, Glynburn Road and Kensington Road this suburb in Adelaide’s east is where you will also find “On Statenborough Retirement Living”.

Making your way around Leabrook

If you are trying to avoid the main roads that border Leabrook then you might consider driving on Godfrey Terrace, Stanley Street, Rochester Street or Knightsbridge Road. When the phone rings for an emergency plumber these are the road, we will often use to get from Marryatville through to Erindale or from Heathpool into Burnside. Knowing some of the quicker routes is the advantage of using a local plumbing firm in Adelaide. We know when Kensington Road will be busy and how to avoid the congestion on Glynburn Road.

In the state electorate of Bragg and the Federal division of Sturt you will often see the local liberal member Jack Batty talking to residents and business owners about how he can improve the area for them. Recently the upgrade to the Hallett Road and Greenhill Road intersection commenced and this will improve safety at this busy location.

There is also the discussion of taking trucks off Portrush Road and putting a diversion road in off the South Eastern Freeway. A project such as this would make a huge change to the traffic conditions on Portrush Road but would also cost a huge sum of money!

Located on Glynburn Road you will also find the Leabrook IGA. Directly opposite this is the amazing Leabrook Bakehouse and Patisserie. Both businesses provide a great place to drop into for all your essentials plus a great bit to eat at smoko for the plumbers in our team.

Case study Tusmore Avenue, Saturday morning Emergency Plumber call out

We recently received a phone call at 8am on a Saturday morning from a customer reporting that their water pipe has burst in the front yard. Within the hour we had an emergency plumber attend the location. If you know the area Tusmore Avenue is a very long and winding road and can be a like a race track during the week with people diving in and out of there lanes, fortunately on the weekend it is a little quieter.

Upon arrival it was obvious which house it was as there was still water running down the street. Typically, with a burst pipe it has already created a hole in the ground for us, so the initial digging is easy. In locations such as Leabrook, Wattle Park, and Norwood there is high water pressure, and many homes will have a 20mm pressure limiting device installed to minimise situations such as this.

What had happened in this case is that a welded tee piece for a garden tap had cracked, this can happen from time to time as it is a weak point. The same thing happened recently on the Parade in Norwood, but someone had driven over this pipe with a car!

Although we still carry oxygen and acetylene bottles in our vans for welding, we rarely use them. What we now use is called crimp fittings. Our preferred manufacturer of this style of fittings is called Viega. These fittings come in a range of sizes from 15mm through to 100mm and can be used on gas or water systems. In this case on Tusmore Avenue, we used 2 x 20mm slip joiners, 1 x 20mm tee with 15mm branch and 1 x 15mm slip joiner. The process is quick and usually doesn’t leak provided the right preparation is done.
