Cleaning drain pipes with new technology
Many home owners will typically refer to getting their drains cleaned using the electric eel or metal snake. Today we use a piece of technology called the hydro jet or sometimes known as the jetter.
The hydro jet uses a variety of different shaped and sized nozzles which blast out high pressure water of around 4,000 kpa and push any debris out of the drain and clear the blockages! The benefit of the hydro jet is that it can get around tight bends in the pipes and clear drains that have been clogged for a long time.
Once we have established some flow through the drain a camera can be inserted which will then give us a much clearer picture of just why the drain has blocked up and if it still needs cleaning to remove any residual tree roots etc. The most thorough nozzle which will completely clean the pipes is called a wart hog nozzle. The wart hog is a rotating nozzle, and it completely descales the pipes walls. Although this nozzle may not use as much power it injects a huge volume of water and gives a good consistent clean of sewer drains.
Water leak investigations
Another fantastic use of our CCTV cameras is to be able to see inside wall cavities, ceiling spaces and underfloor crawl spaces. A water leak can be very tricky at times to find and that is why the introduction of cameras to our vans has made finding these issues quicker and easier for our Master Plumbers.
Once the exact location of the water leak can be found using the camera the rectification process will take place. A common water leak is in the shower wall and the breaching piece has split causing water to pour into the cavity whenever the shower is in use. A leak such as this is relatively easy to fix but will unfortunately be disruptive to the bathroom.
